Freeway crashes bring delays through North Las Vegas

State traffic logs show a busy stretch of days on North Las Vegas roads. Late Friday night, a vehicle injury crash on northbound I-15 near Cheyenne Avenue was flagged for possible delays, with troopers warning drivers to slow down and expect lane disruptions. Another injury crash was reported the same evening on the 215 Beltway at Losee Road, backing up traffic on a key commuter route between North Las Vegas neighborhoods and the wider valley.

Officials continue to urge drivers to build in extra travel time, especially at night and around major junctions, and to watch for sudden slowdowns when emergency crews are on scene.

Big NASCAR weekend coming to Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Racing fans in North Las Vegas are looking ahead to the Pennzoil 400, the NASCAR Cup Series stop set for March 15 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The 400-mile race will be the fifth event of the 2026 Cup season and is expected to draw tens of thousands of visitors to the speedway complex on the city’s north side.

The track’s location in North Las Vegas means nearby residents can expect heavier traffic on race weekend along I-15, Las Vegas Boulevard and local arterials that feed the speedway. Local businesses often see a surge in customers, while police and transportation officials typically roll out special traffic plans to move fans in and out of the area.

2026 elections already on the horizon for local residents

Even with November still months away, this year’s ballot is taking shape for voters in North Las Vegas. Statewide, all four of Nevada’s U.S. House seats are up for election on November 3, including the 4th Congressional District, which covers northern Las Vegas and surrounding communities. Incumbent Democrat Steven Horsford has filed to run again, while multiple Republican challengers are lining up in the primary.

At the state level, all 42 seats in the Nevada Assembly are also scheduled for the November election, with primary contests set for June 9. For North Las Vegas residents, those races will help determine the future balance of power in Carson City on issues from education funding to transportation and public safety.

Local political organizing, fundraising and door-knocking are expected to ramp up as spring approaches, giving residents plenty of chances to learn about candidates before early voting begins later this year.
