North Las Vegas advances two hospital groups to finalist stage

North Las Vegas has advanced two hospital groups to prepare development proposals for a potential 135-acre health and wellness campus. The city announced the finalist selection Oct. 5 and expects to choose one group within 90 days.

The selection moves the city’s search for a development partner forward, but it is not approval to build. Planning and design could follow the city’s choice; the announcement does not establish that the campus will be built.

The proposed site is near Interstate 215 and Pecos Road, across from the Veterans Affairs hospital, according to KTNV. The city selected the finalists with assistance from Cambridge Development Services. The two groups were not publicly identified in the announcement.

Possible campus uses remain proposals

The potential campus could include a hospital, medical offices, research space, retail, restaurants and hotels. Those are possible uses, not commitments to build each facility. Both finalist groups are to proceed with development proposals, after which the city expects to select one.

City officials have described the project as a way to serve residents’ health care needs. KTNV interviewed two residents who supported having a hospital closer to home. Their comments reflect those interviewees’ views and do not establish broader community opinion.

North Vista Hospital is already located in North Las Vegas, KTNV reported. The finalist selection concerns a proposed campus; it does not establish an immediate change to health care services for residents or a construction start.

The 90-day period is the city’s stated expectation, not a confirmed binding deadline. The announcement did not provide a project budget, financing plan, hospital capacity, construction schedule or opening date.
