Special election just weeks away

North Myrtle Beach voters are less than three weeks from a special city election that will fill the open Crescent Beach council seat. The at-large vote is scheduled for Tuesday, February 24, and will determine who finishes the term that runs through November 2027.

City election officials are reminding residents who live within the city limits to confirm their registration status and polling place ahead of time. Polls are expected to be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. across multiple precincts, including Cherry Grove, Crescent Beach, Ocean Drive and Windy Hill.

The race will feature two candidates who have already filed for the seat. Voters are being encouraged to review the candidates’ backgrounds and priorities now so they are ready before early voting and absentee options are fully underway.

February nights out: music and wine

Looking ahead to next week, live music will be a big draw in North Myrtle Beach. The Greg Rowles Legacy Theatre has a full February calendar, including its “Music & Memories” show on multiple weeknights and a Billy Joel tribute set for Valentine’s Day.

Down at Barefoot Landing, Duplin Winery is preparing for its February Heritage Club pick-up parties on February 10 and 12. The evening events, which run from 6 to 8 p.m., will help kick off the winery’s 50th anniversary year and are expected to bring club members into town even in the off-season.

Quiet but cool beach weekend

Weather-wise, this first full weekend of February is typical for the Grand Strand. Seasonal temperatures in the upper 50s during the afternoon and 40s overnight will keep things cool but comfortable for beach walks, golf and early spring chores.

Forecasters say February usually brings a mix of sunny breaks and light rain to North Myrtle Beach, with only a small chance of wintry weather. Residents can expect around 11 hours of daylight by mid-month, a small but welcome sign that longer spring days are on the way.

With no major disruptions expected, local officials recommend using the calm stretch to take care of storm prep basics, check smoke detectors and review family plans ahead of the busier spring and summer seasons.
