City energy grant boosts local efficiency projects

Oxford is set to receive $175,000 in state funding to improve energy efficiency in city facilities, as part of a statewide grant program announced this week.

City leaders plan to use the money for upgrades such as LED lighting and building retrofits, aimed at cutting utility use by at least 15 percent while freeing up future operating dollars for other local needs.

RedHawks topple No. 4 Western Michigan in overtime

A packed crowd at Cady Arena watched Miami’s hockey team knock off fourth-ranked Western Michigan 3–2 in overtime Friday night, with forward David Deputy scoring the game-winner early in the extra period.

The win was Miami’s fifth straight and continued a strong midseason run at home in Oxford, where the series with Western Michigan was already close to a sellout heading into the weekend.

Fans who missed the opener still have one more chance to see the matchup tonight, with limited tickets remaining for the second game of the series at Cady Arena.

Diving invitational highlights Saturday sports slate

Earlier today, visiting men’s and women’s diving squads from Ball State joined Miami at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center for the final tune-up before their conference championships.

The meet gives local fans a look at some of the region’s top collegiate divers, with events running through the afternoon on both the one-meter and three-meter boards.

On Sunday evening, students and residents can gather at the Armstrong Student Center’s Redzone for a campus Big Game watch party, with festivities scheduled from 6 p.m. into the night.
