Payson is getting ready to open its new Innovation Center, a space meant to give local entrepreneurs and small businesses a boost. An open house and ribbon cutting is scheduled for Thursday, February 12, from 4 to 8 p.m., when residents can tour the building and hear how the space will be used.

The center is being developed with help from a nearby technical college and is designed to function as a business incubator. Plans include shared offices and conference rooms along with tools like 3D printers, embroidery machines and a podcast studio, giving startups access to equipment that can be hard to afford on their own.

Library Family Movie Night kicks off the month

The Payson Library hosted its regular Family Movie Night on Friday, offering a free, family-friendly film to close out the week. The series runs on the first Friday of each month at 6:30 p.m. and gives parents and kids a simple night out close to home.

Staff say the informal gatherings help neighbors connect during the quieter winter months, and more teen writing and activity nights are already listed on the February calendar.

100 South street project winds down

Drivers along 100 South are seeing construction equipment pull back after several weeks of work on the corridor. A city project that ran from mid-January through Thursday focused on rebuilding sections of asphalt, adding curb, gutter and sidewalk, installing a retaining wall and upgrading storm drain infrastructure.

The improvements are intended to extend the life of the roadway and cut down on flooding issues during storms. While the most disruptive work is wrapping up, residents should still watch for brief lane restrictions as crews finish cleanup and small follow-up tasks.
