Peters Township keeps East McMurray development under review as 2026 road work continues
MCMURRAY, PA — A proposed assisted-living and memory-care facility in East McMurray remains under review after Peters Township tabled the project, with the Smith Packett proposal expected to return at the township’s August planning meeting.
The development and road plans put two active township matters on the same corridor, with potential implications for traffic, nearby property owners, pedestrians and access along McMurray’s principal commercial area.
Assisted-living proposal remains pending
Peters Township’s plans-under-review page lists “Smith Packett – East McMurray Assisted Living & Memory Care.” The proposal was scheduled for consideration June 11, 2026, but was tabled. The page says it will be considered at the August planning meeting.
That listing does not mean the facility has been approved. The township page does not provide a proposed unit count, building size or a final date for the August meeting.
The development page identifies the project with a McMurray, PA 15317 address. It also separately lists a development plan for 619 E. McMurray Road and a listing for Spitzer Acura. The available information does not establish whether every project listed under McMurray falls within the exact census-designated place rather than the broader Peters Township service area.
East McMurray Road appears on 2026 map
Separately, Peters Township’s 2026 map of project roadways includes East McMurray Road. The map indicates the road is part of the township’s 2026 paving or project-roadway program, but it does not establish that work is newly beginning in August or provide a specific construction schedule.
The township’s 2026 roadway listing follows a major PennDOT project at the Bebout Road and East McMurray Road intersection. PennDOT described that reconstruction as a $4.1 million project.
In a Sept. 12, 2025 update, PennDOT reported that East McMurray Road had reopened to traffic. The agency also said intermittent single-lane restrictions were expected through October 2025. That update is a 2025 construction report, not a new announcement that the intersection project will be completed in 2026.
What happens next
The next known development step is the assisted-living proposal’s return to the Peters Township Planning Commission at its August meeting. No final meeting date, approval or facility specifications are provided in the township’s accessible plans-under-review information.
For people who drive, walk or conduct business along East McMurray Road, the records show both continued development review and a separate 2026 roadway listing. The documents do not yet provide enough detail to determine the final traffic pattern, construction timing or any approved changes tied to the proposed senior-care facility.
