Piqua Daily Brief: Drug arrests, slick roads, and city honors

Here’s a quick look at what’s been happening around Piqua as of Saturday evening, after an active 48 hours for public safety and city crews.

2 men arrested after drug investigation

Two Piqua men were arrested Friday after detectives served a narcotics search warrant at neighboring homes in the 400 block of West High Street. Tactical teams from Piqua and Sidney secured 425 ½ West High Street and 427 West High Street around 9:15 a.m., and investigators report finding evidence of narcotics trafficking and drug abuse inside.

The men, ages 38 and 40, were taken to the Miami County Jail on outstanding warrants while additional charges are considered. Two children at one of the homes were placed with relatives through county children’s services, and no injuries were reported. Investigators say the case began with a community tip and are again urging residents to report suspected drug activity to local law enforcement or Crime Stoppers.

Snow creates slick roads; plows stay busy

Friday’s snowfall left many streets slick, and city snowplow crews spent the morning salting hills, bridges and curves. Officials say drivers will continue to see plows on the main routes first, with neighborhood streets treated as conditions allow, and they are asking motorists to slow down and leave extra space around trucks, especially on untreated side streets and at icy intersections.

City proclaims Edna Stiefel Day

At its meeting this week, the City Commission declared Friday, February 6, 2026, as Edna Stiefel Day, honoring her decades of volunteer work and her 90th birthday. The mayor read a proclamation while Stiefel, friends and family stood at the front of the commission chambers, a moment city leaders say reflects the volunteer spirit that supports many local programs.

Live fire training set for February 12

The Piqua Fire Department has scheduled a live fire training exercise for Thursday, February 12, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Piqua Public Safety Regional Training Facility on State Route 66. The exercise will use straw and heat-treated wood pallets to simulate fire and smoke conditions for firefighters while they practice tactics and safety procedures; the training site will be closed to the public, but nearby roads, the bike path and waterways will remain open with signs posted to let people know that training is underway.
