Funds are distributed in application order until the budgeted amount runs out, so applying early remains important even several weeks into the program.

Grants available for exterior and energy upgrades

Homeowners also have fresh opportunities to improve their properties through a trio of 2026 grants managed by the community development staff. The Exterior Grant offers a 25% city match, from $500 up to $3,500, for projects such as exterior painting, siding, roofs, gutters, front-facing concrete, windows, doors, and foundation repairs on owner-occupied homes appraised at $450,000 or less.

The Sustainability Grant supports energy-efficiency upgrades that meet modern conservation standards, including home energy audits, high-efficiency HVAC or water heaters, better windows and doors, added insulation, solar or small wind systems, and geothermal systems. Most projects receive a 25% match on at least a $2,000 investment, while insulation-only jobs can qualify for a 50% match starting at $1,000 in costs. A separate trash container screening grant reimburses half of screening costs up to $100 for eligible homes, helping keep bins tucked behind the front building line and out of view. All three grant applications are submitted online and reviewed in the order received.

City marking 75 years with year-long celebration

This year marks the 75th anniversary of Prairie Village’s incorporation, and the city is planning a year-long celebration highlighting local history and neighborhood life. Recent announcements point to a full slate of events and storytelling opportunities throughout 2026, inviting residents to share memories of the community’s evolution from postwar suburb to mature, tree-lined city.
