Prior Lake council advances 262-home Vierling property proposal
The Prior Lake City Council has moved forward with a proposal for a 262-unit residential neighborhood on approximately 88 acres near the southeast corner of County Highway 21 and County Highway 42.
The City of Prior Lake posted the council update June 25, 2026. The Vierling property proposal calls for low- and medium-density residential development at the site, which is within Prior Lake near the intersection of the two county highways.
What the proposal includes
Community Development Director Casey McCabe presented the council with a 156-page report covering the proposed development. The report included development plans, environmental studies, traffic studies, public feedback and other supporting documents.
The councilโs action moved the proposal forward for continued consideration. It did not represent a decision that the homes had been built or were under construction. The city announcement did not establish a final approval date or construction schedule for the Vierling property.
That distinction is important for nearby residents, property owners and people traveling through the County Highway 21 and County Highway 42 area. The 262 units remain proposed housing. If the project is ultimately approved and built, it would add 262 homes to Prior Lakeโs housing supply and could affect traffic, demand for public infrastructure and the cityโs future growth pattern.
The reportโs inclusion of environmental, traffic and public-feedback materials gives the council documents covering several issues that can shape consideration of a large residential proposal. Those materials address development conditions and potential effects associated with the site, while the councilโs action keeps the project moving through the cityโs review process.
Separate Northwood Road project
Prior Lake is also planning road and utility improvements in the Northwood Road area, including work on side streets. Construction for that separate project is scheduled to begin in 2026.
The Northwood Road work is not part of the Vierling property proposal. The two projects involve different locations and purposes: the Vierling proposal concerns a potential residential neighborhood, while the Northwood project concerns municipal road and utility improvements.
Together, the proposals show two types of activity affecting Prior Lakeโs growth and municipal services: potential new housing near two county highways and planned infrastructure work in another part of the city. The next known development for the Vierling property is further city action as the proposal continues through consideration.
