Record warmth could break March 9 mark

Milwaukee is flirting with history today as temperatures climb into the upper 60s, putting the city within reach of its March 9 record high of 67 degrees set in 2016.

Forecasters say strong southwest winds are pulling in unusually mild air for early March. The warmth is expected to be short-lived, however, with cooler air arriving tonight and rain and possible thunderstorms moving in Tuesday.

For many residents, it is a welcome preview of spring. Just keep an eye on changing conditions as the week begins.

Long-term I-94 lane closure begins tonight

Drivers should plan ahead starting this evening. A long-term lane closure on eastbound I-94 from 35th Street to 25th Street begins March 9 as part of the ongoing expansion project.

The on-ramp from 35th Street to eastbound I-94 will also close. Transportation officials say the configuration will remain in place through late 2026, with some temporary adjustments around Brewers season home games.

Commuters are encouraged to allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes.

Outdoor enthusiasts turn out for Sports Show

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Sports Show wrapped up Sunday at State Fair Park, drawing families and outdoor enthusiasts for archery contests, trout fishing and turkey-calling competitions.

The annual event highlights the region’s strong hunting and fishing culture and offers hands-on activities for all ages. Organizers say turnout remained strong throughout the weekend.

Community events fill the week ahead

Looking ahead, several local events are on the calendar this week, including youth literacy programming, transit reduced-fare sign-up opportunities and a midweek career fair. With warmer weather in the forecast to start the week, organizers are expecting solid participation.
