Revere Wins More Than $1 Million for Trails, Streetscape Work and Beach Connections

Revere has secured more than $1.17 million across three transportation and public-space awards, but the money covers separate projects at different stages. The awards support trail planning, streetscape improvements and preliminary design for a connection between key neighborhood destinations.

The Revere Journal reported on July 8, 2026, that the awards total $1.175 million. The funding could eventually improve walking, biking, beach access and neighborhood connections, but it does not represent one fully funded construction package.

Three awards, three types of work

The largest award is $500,000 programmed for preliminary design of the Revere Beach Connector. The Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization’s transportation program identifies $400,000 in federal funding and a $100,000 local match for the project in federal fiscal year 2027.

The connector is intended to improve links among Revere High School, Wonderland Park and surrounding neighborhoods. At this stage, the funding supports design work rather than completed construction. Future decisions will still be needed on final plans, permitting, construction funding and implementation schedules.

A separate $493,000 award will support Harris Street streetscape improvements. The project could affect how the corridor functions for people walking, biking and traveling through the area, although the available award information does not establish a final construction schedule or a complete list of design details.

The third award is $182,000 for initial planning for the Narrow-Gauge Trail. That funding is aimed at an early planning step, not a finished trail. The planning process will help determine future design and implementation needs.

A related project has a projected 2028 construction start

MassDOT separately lists the State Road Beachmont Connector as a Revere project with construction projected to begin in summer 2028. The state record describes the project as active in design, so that date should be treated as a projection rather than a guarantee.

The State Road Beachmont Connector and the Revere Beach Connector are related efforts, but they should not be treated as the same award or as one completed project. The MPO funding now identified for the Revere Beach Connector is specifically for preliminary design.

What residents should watch next

For residents, the most immediate changes are likely to involve planning, engineering and public meetings rather than new trails, sidewalks or streetscapes appearing right away. Design decisions may clarify route locations, crossings, connections to transit and beach access points.

The city’s Walk, Bike, and Roll Master Plan provides broader context for these efforts, including safer crossings, trail connections, beach access and links to transit. The new awards advance several pieces of that longer-term planning framework.
