Wildfire defensible space inspections and free home assessments
The city is ramping up wildfire preparedness ahead of the dry season, with a renewed push for defensible space and neighborhood-level mitigation. Officials say more properties are now mapped in higher fire hazard zones, which can trigger defensible space requirements and inspections. Residents can request a free home assessment through the city to get tailored guidance on trimming, clearing, and other steps that reduce risk around structures.
City leaders also highlighted practical hurdles, including areas where responsibility for vegetation management is unclear and hard-to-access edges along bluffs and open space.
I-215 crash slows the morning commute
A motorcycle and a Toyota Prius collided on I-215 northbound south of Martin Luther King Boulevard on Tuesday morning, slowing traffic through Riverside and backing up drivers well beyond the immediate scene. The rider was reported conscious while being evaluated, and lanes were impacted during the response and cleanup.
City Hall agenda: spending items, hiring gaps, and a Mission Inn Avenue median

The agenda also includes a required public hearing on workforce vacancies and recruitment efforts, plus a construction item to add a median on Mission Inn Avenue between Redwood Drive and Scout Lane.
