Mayor’s Address Highlights Riverside’s Progress
In her fifth annual State of the City address, Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson reported substantial improvements in Riverside’s key areas. Crime rates have decreased by 35% over the past two years, with all 2025 homicides solved. The city has also seen the creation of 18,000 new jobs in the past year, and attracted $4.3 billion in new construction investments. Additionally, Riverside has added 88 new police officers, achieving full staffing for the first time in over 25 years.
Healthcare Expansion to Address Regional Needs
Addressing the Inland Empire’s longstanding healthcare shortage, Riverside is expanding its medical facilities. The UCR School of Medicine is building a 280-bed teaching hospital, Riverside Community Hospital is adding 770 beds with a $1 billion expansion, and Kaiser’s expansion is set to open in 2027. These developments aim to provide over 1,000 additional beds to meet the region’s healthcare demands.
Looking Ahead: Upcoming Projects and Initiatives
Looking forward, Riverside plans to begin construction this summer on a new police headquarters. The Riverside Sports Complex is moving forward, and Thompson’s Brewery is set to open at the Armory in approximately two years. These projects reflect the city’s commitment to continued growth and community development.
