Public safety: Two detained after Southwest Side shooting

San Antonio police said two men were detained Wednesday morning after a shooting call in the 100 block of Bluffside Drive, near U.S. 90 and Loop 410. Officers reported seeing the pair run and then discard weapons during a foot chase. Police said four firearms were recovered.

Investigators said two people at the home reported an argument escalated into a fight, with shots fired inside the residence. The investigation was still active late Wednesday.

Traffic: Big delays after a high-severity crash near the downtown interchange

Drivers saw major slowdowns Wednesday after a serious crash disrupted the northbound connector area where I-35 meets U.S. 281 and I-37. Transportation officials initially flagged the incident as high severity, and lane closures on the ramp backed traffic up even after the scene began clearing.

If you have to pass through that interchange this week, it’s a good reminder to budget extra time during the morning commute and consider alternate routes when alerts pop up.

Politics: Early voting turnout jumps in Bexar County

Bexar County elections officials reported a sharp increase in early voting compared with the last midterm primary cycle. Through the first five days of early voting (Feb. 17–21), officials said 70,912 ballots were cast countywide, more than double the same five-day period in 2022.

Early voting runs through Feb. 27, with Election Day set for March 3. The elections office also reiterated guidance for voters using the mail, noting that postmark timing can affect deadlines.

Crime follow-up: Arrest made in a New Year’s Day bar shooting case

Police said a 39-year-old man was arrested and charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting that happened just after midnight on Jan. 1 outside a bar. Investigators said video helped identify two suspected shooters, and police said one suspect remained at large as of this week.
