Santa Clarita Fuel Watch: Metro Gas Hits $5.71; Diesel Tops $7.11

Regular gasoline reached $5.710 per gallon and diesel climbed to $7.113 in the latest AAA Los Angeles-Long Beach metro price check serving the Santa Clarita market. Both fuels were higher than the previous day, continuing a broader upward trend compared with earlier this summer and last year.

Regular gas continues to rise

AAA’s Aug. 1, 2026, regular-gas average increased $0.003 from the previous day’s $5.707 per gallon. The metro average was up $0.027 from a week earlier, $0.285 from one month earlier and $1.237 from one year earlier.

For a driver filling a 15-gallon tank, the current metro benchmark represents about $85.65 before any station-specific difference. Compared with the same amount of fuel at the year-ago average, the increase is roughly $18.56 per fill-up.

Diesel remains above $7 per gallon

Diesel rose $0.005 from the previous day, when the AAA average was $7.108 per gallon. The latest price was $0.065 higher than a week earlier, $0.433 higher than one month earlier and $1.961 above the year-ago level.

The larger diesel increases matter for commercial operators because fuel is a direct operating cost for delivery vehicles, contractors, service fleets, landscaping companies, construction businesses and other work trucks. Higher diesel costs can also add pressure to delivery charges and the cost of transporting goods, although the effect varies by business and pricing strategy.

Regional context

The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s latest weekly Los Angeles regular-gas benchmark was $5.447 for the week of July 27. That figure is lower than AAA’s Aug. 1 metro average, but the two numbers use different timing and measurement methods: EIA reports a weekly benchmark, while AAA provides a more current metro price check.

For Santa Clarita commuters and households, the immediate takeaway is that both major fuel categories moved higher since the last daily check. The trend may be especially noticeable for people with long commutes, frequent weekend travel or vehicles that require diesel. Restaurants, delivery operators, contractors and service businesses may also be watching fuel costs as part of their transportation budgets.
