Santa Rosa Gas Eases as Diesel Edges Higher in Aug. 1 AAA Check

Santa Rosa-area regular gasoline prices eased modestly while diesel moved higher in AAA’s Aug. 1, 2026, metro check. Regular gas averaged $5.763 per gallon, down 1.2 cents from the previous day. Diesel averaged $6.908, up 1.2 cents from the prior check.

The daily movements were small, but the broader price picture remains elevated. Regular gas was 0.5 cents below its week-ago average of $5.768, yet it was 19.7 cents higher than a month earlier and $1.007 higher than a year earlier.

Diesel remains near $6.90

Diesel followed a different path. The Santa Rosa metro average was 0.6 cents above the week-ago figure of $6.902, 34.8 cents higher than the month-ago average of $6.560, and $1.468 above the year-ago average of $5.440.

For drivers using regular gasoline, the latest figures suggest a brief easing from the recent check rather than a clear reversal. Diesel users saw the opposite one-day change, with the average moving back above $6.90 per gallon.

California prices provide broader context

AAA listed California’s statewide average at $5.652 for regular gasoline and $6.919 for diesel on Aug. 1. Those figures are statewide averages, not Santa Rosa station prices. The Santa Rosa regular-gas average was higher than the statewide figure, while Santa Rosa diesel was slightly lower.

The latest weekly federal data available from the U.S. Energy Information Administration covered the week of July 27. EIA reported a California average of $5.489 for gasoline and $6.670 for on-highway diesel. Because that release uses a different date and measurement schedule, it is useful as broader context rather than as a direct same-day comparison with the AAA Santa Rosa figures.

What elevated prices can mean locally

Fuel costs can affect Santa Rosa residents in different ways depending on how much they drive and what type of vehicle they use.
