Scottsdale road project fallout, flood access plans and a canceled meeting lead local headlines
Scottsdale, AZ – March 11, 2026 – City leaders face fallout over a costly road project reversal as residents review flood access plans and a canceled meeting.
Scottsdale is seeing a busy week at City Hall, with transportation funding, neighborhood safety and public meetings all making headlines.
Roundabout reversal draws scrutiny
A recent City Council decision to abandon a federally funded roundabout at Scottsdale Road and Dynamite Boulevard is drawing renewed attention after new cost details came to light.
City officials say the original project had secured roughly $31 million in federal grant funding. After a 4-3 council vote last year to move away from the roundabout design, the city forfeited that grant and is now facing an additional $3.4 million in costs tied to redesign and contract changes.
The total budget for the intersection safety project is capped at $43.7 million, leaving little contingency funding available. Supporters of the roundabout say the reversal undercut expert recommendations, while others have argued for alternative safety improvements at the busy north Scottsdale intersection.
Flood access proposal opens for feedback
On Tuesday evening, residents near Vista Del Camino II were invited to attend an open house focused on emergency access improvements along 77th Street.
The neighborhood currently relies on a single access point from Roosevelt Street. During major storm events, flooding in the Indian Bend Wash can cut off entry and exit. City planners are proposing a new mixed-use pathway that would double as a vehicular emergency route during floods. Construction is tentatively scheduled for fall 2027, but community feedback is being gathered now.
Planning Commission meeting canceled
The Scottsdale Planning Commission’s regular meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, was officially canceled, according to the city’s public meetings calendar.
While no reason was listed in the public notice, canceled meetings can delay discussions on zoning, development and long-range planning items that typically come before the commission before reaching City Council.
With major infrastructure decisions and neighborhood access projects in motion, residents can expect continued debate in the weeks ahead.
