Shooting Prompts Lockdown; Patrols Increased; Lumpia Week Set to Begin

San Antonio is closing out the week with a mix of urgent public safety updates and community events on the horizon.

West Side Shooting Leaves One Critical

A shooting early Friday left one person fighting for their life and triggered a partial lockdown in parts of the city. Police say the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition as officers worked to secure the scene and search for those involved.

Residents in the immediate area reported a heavy law enforcement presence for several hours. Authorities have not released full details on a suspect but say the investigation remains active.

Patrols Increased After Austin Attack

In the wake of the March 1 mass shooting in downtown Austin that left three people dead and nearly 20 injured, San Antonio law enforcement agencies have stepped up patrols in high-traffic areas.

Local officials say the move is precautionary. Extra officers are being assigned to entertainment districts and other crowded spaces as investigators at the federal and state level continue to examine the Austin case.

Police stress there is no known specific threat to San Antonio at this time, but the added visibility is intended to reassure residents and deter potential violence.

National Lumpia Week Expands in SA

On a lighter note, San Antonio is preparing to host its first-ever National Lumpia Week from March 10 through March 16. The celebration expands on previous one-day observances and will feature local restaurants, pop-ups and special menu items highlighting the Filipino staple.

Organizers say the weeklong event is designed to spotlight small businesses and the city’s growing Filipino community. Participating spots will offer traditional and creative takes on lumpia, with themed promotions planned throughout the week.
