Louisiana tracker lists 41 planned data centers, 8,430 MW
Cleanview’s Louisiana data-center tracker lists 41 planned projects totaling 8,430 megawatts of capacity on a page labeled updated October 2026. That is nine more planned entries but 1,000 MW less planned capacity than an analysis of the tracker’s August data.
The October page also lists one operating entry with 1 MW and five unique developers. It does not explain the changes between the two snapshots.
Axios New Orleans reported on Oct. 7 that its map, based on Cleanview data labeled August 2026, showed 32 Louisiana entries “in the works” and 9,431 MW. A separate analysis of that August dataset breaks the total down as 9,430 MW planned and 1 MW operating. The August figure therefore combines planned and operating capacity; it is not all planned capacity.
Cleanview tracks individual buildings, Axios reported. Its project count is an inventory, not a count of approved or certain-to-be-built campuses. Planned capacity also does not measure electricity actually being used across the state.
River Bend construction underway in West Feliciana Parish
One Louisiana project has moved beyond the planning stage: Axios documented construction at Hut 8’s River Bend campus during an Oct. 5 site visit in West Feliciana Parish. Hut 8 lists the site footprint at 627 acres.
The company reports 330 MW of utility capacity for River Bend and 245 MW of commercialized information-technology capacity. The figures describe different measures: Hut 8 says the utility capacity supports an initial 245 MW of IT capacity leased to Fluidstack. They are not estimates of the same amount of electricity consumed.
Hut 8 estimates the project will have at least 75 permanent operations jobs. Axios reported about 1,200 construction workers at the site during the buildout; that is a construction workforce figure, not a permanent-jobs count.
The schedule has two different public targets. Axios reported that company representatives cited initial operations in the first quarter of 2027. Hut 8’s published lease materials had targeted initial data-hall delivery in the second quarter of 2027. Both are company targets, not completed milestones.
Hut 8 has described River Bend’s cooling as a closed-loop system that will not draw on local water. Separately, the company announced an agreement to commit about $16 million to expand the parish water system, including a new well and about eight miles of water main. Hut 8 says the improvements will be transferred to the parish after completion. The announced investment does not establish the project’s actual future water use.
State incentives and other announced projects
Louisiana Economic Development lists Hut 8, Applied Digital, Amazon and Meta among announced digital-factory projects. The agency describes participation requirements and coordination for the state’s Data Center Sales and Use Tax Exemption. That framework does not establish that every project in Cleanview’s tracker has received an incentive or met particular commitments.
The tracker figures describe a changing pipeline, while River Bend offers a specific example of construction in progress. The October count and capacity should be read as Cleanview’s current listed inventory, not as a measure of completed development or statewide power use.
