Snohomish County opens planning and public input for Centennial Trail South extension

Snohomish County Parks & Recreation launched planning July 21, 2026, for Centennial Trail South, a proposed extension intended to complete the Centennial Trail through Snohomish County.

The county has opened a public survey for the project. Residents and nearby communities can submit input through Aug. 29, 2026, during the early planning stage for the proposed regional connection.

A proposed north-south trail connection

The long-term objective is to connect the Centennial Trail from Skagit County south to King County’s regional trail system. The proposed connection involves three counties: Snohomish, Skagit and King.

For Snohomish County, the effort is focused on extending the trail through the county and connecting it to larger regional trail systems at both ends. That gives the planning process a broader scope than a project limited to one trail segment or one community.

The countywide approach also means public input can address how a future connection should be considered across Snohomish County. The survey deadline gives residents a specific opportunity to participate before the planning effort advances.

Planning has begun, but construction details are not set

Centennial Trail South is a planning effort, not a completed construction project. The July 21 announcement does not establish a final route, construction schedule, cost or funding package.

That distinction matters for residents who want to understand whether the proposal would affect a particular neighborhood, property or transportation connection. The project’s stated objective identifies the counties and regional trail systems involved, but it does not identify a specific construction site within the City of Snohomish.
