Greenville-Pickens transportation plan enters public input phase ahead of long-range infrastructure decisions

Greenville County posted an update May 18, 2026, announcing public participation in GPATS Horizon 2050, a 10-year major update to the region’s 25-year transportation plan. Residents are being invited to help shape transportation priorities before the regional project list is developed.

The Greenville-Pickens Area Transportation Study plan will assess highways, streets, transit, freight routes, sidewalks, trails and bicycle infrastructure. Its intended result is a fiscally constrained, prioritized list of projects, meaning proposed work will be ranked against the funding expected to be available.

That regional planning process covers transportation needs affecting the Upstate, including the Greenville-Anderson corridor near Powdersville. Residents in the community rely on connections among Anderson, Greenville and Pickens counties, so the plan’s priorities could influence which safety, congestion, transit and other multimodal improvements advance through the regional process.

Greenville County’s announcement did not identify a final Powdersville project or a construction schedule. The next known step is public input as GPATS develops the Horizon 2050 priorities. The South Carolina Department of Transportation is among the agencies involved in the region’s transportation-planning landscape, but no specific project or construction funding is guaranteed by this announcement.
