Salt dome briefing reassures neighbors

State conservation and energy officials met with residents this week to update them on the emergency declaration around the west side of the Sulphur Mines Salt Dome. Low water pressure reported off N. Rose Park

The city issued a notice Thursday that maintenance work may leave some customers on North Rose Park Avenue with lower-than-normal water pressure. Residents who completely lose water service are asked to contact the city water plant so crews can check individual lines. City officials thanked neighbors in the area for their patience while the work is completed.

Park to Park Half Marathon brings road closures

The annual Park to Park Half Marathon is set to run through Sulphur this morning, and drivers can expect temporary road closures and lane shifts along the race route. The city and race organizers plan rolling closures, meaning streets will reopen as the runners pass. Residents who need to travel early today should allow extra time and watch for barricades, officers, and volunteers directing traffic near the course.

Parish booking reports note Sulphur arrests

Booking reports released Friday and Saturday from the parish correctional center list several suspects with Sulphur addresses facing charges ranging from drug possession to financial crimes. These logs are preliminary and do not represent findings of guilt, but they give a snapshot of recent law-enforcement activity in the area.

Special election on the ballot today

Today is also election day for a special primary to fill the state House seat in District 37, which includes parts of Calcasieu and Jefferson Davis parishes. Some Sulphur voters fall inside the district and will see the race on their ballots. Parish election officials are reminding residents to confirm their polling place and bring a photo ID before heading out to vote.
