Sundance’s $700,000 culvert award moves toward construction after state grant approval

Sundance has received a $700,000 state award to replace the failing culvert at the Third Street crossing, moving the project toward construction. The Wyoming State Loan and Investment Board approved the award on Feb. 5, 2026.

The state project table lists total requested costs of $1,023,099, leaving a $323,099 difference between the listed project cost and the award. The culvert serves a Third Street crossing where the mayor reported repeated roadway settlement, including a four-inch drop followed by another four-inch drop. Temporary asphalt repairs were needed to keep the roadway usable.

Surveying is next

In a June council update, officials said the city was preparing to begin the culvert project and that the mayor had signed the SLIB agreement. The city engineer asked the council to authorize surveying, and the council agreed.

The latest council reporting did not identify a contractor or construction start date. A July 9 Sundance Times archive report said remaining SLIB funds had been divided among projects that had not received full funding, including Sundance’s culvert replacement, but it did not establish whether the city’s award total changed.
