Suwanee starts the weekend with a full calendar, from family runs and fresh produce to major recognition for its downtown and ongoing winter weather prep.

Sweetheart Sprint and Winter Farmers Market Fill Town Center

This morning, runners, walkers, and families are expected around Town Center as the annual Sweetheart Sprint 5K and fun run return alongside the Winter Farmers Market.

The Valentine themed race typically features a Peachtree Road Race qualifier 5K, kid friendly fun run, costumes, and even leashed dogs on the course, with proceeds supporting Rotary scholarships and local charities. Residents not lacing up can still head to Town Center on Main from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for the open air Winter Farmers Market, which highlights seasonal produce, baked goods, meats, and other locally made favorites.

Suwanee Honored with 2026 Visionary City Award

City leaders are also celebrating fresh recognition for Suwanee’s long term planning work. The city was recently named a 2026 Visionary City Award honoree in the medium city category for its Town Center on Main project.

The project reworked Main Street to better connect historic Old Town with Town Center, creating a more walkable, people focused downtown. New greenspace, gathering spots, and pedestrian links have turned the area into a daily community hub, and state level partners highlighted Suwanee’s use of design and partnerships to strengthen civic life and local businesses.

Winter Weather Update and Public Safety Focus

After a stretch of wintry conditions, the city’s latest winter weather update emphasizes that Public Works and the Police Department remain geared up for additional rounds of icy or snowy weather.

Crews plan to prioritize major roads, bridges, and key safety locations for treatment with sand and salt mixtures, while working closely with regional emergency managers as forecasts change. The city is reminding residents that parks and certain trails may close during bad weather, that downed trees affecting public rights of way should be reported to the non emergency police line, and that utility outages must be directed to individual providers.

Looking Ahead: Business Networking and City Meetings

Local business owners will get a chance to connect midweek, with the Suwanee Business Alliance’s February networking gathering scheduled Wednesday evening at a Peachtree Industrial Boulevard bank branch in the city.

At City Hall, the coming days bring a Harvest Farm Managing Board session, a meeting of the Public Arts Commission, and a City Council workshop, keeping the civic calendar busy as Suwanee heads deeper into February.
