Tampa Daily Headlines: Rays stadium sessions, zoning rewrite, Women’s History Month honor, Lightning fall
Rays stadium plan heads to public input
Community engagement sessions start Tuesday, March 3, as the Rays and Hillsborough College share updates and collect feedback on a proposed ballpark and mixed-use district near Dale Mabry Highway. The first meeting is planned for the college’s Dale Mabry campus, with additional Tampa sessions scheduled March 10 and March 11.
It’s an early chance for residents to hear the latest timeline, ask practical questions, and flag neighborhood concerns before the project gets deeper into funding and design decisions.
Tampa’s development rulebook is getting a long-overdue refresh
City planners have opened the first installment of a multi-part update to Tampa’s Land Development Code, the zoning and development framework that hasn’t had a major update since 1984. A public meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 2, to walk through the changes and explain how people can submit comments.
The goal, officials say, is a code that’s easier to navigate and more current, including clearer organization and updated definitions that reflect how the city actually grows today.
Women’s History Month event spotlights city service
Tampa’s 29th annual Women’s History Month celebration is set for Tuesday, March 3, at the Tampa Bay History Center. This year’s top employee honor is slated to go to longtime Parks and Recreation leader Heather Wolf Erickson, recognized for decades of work expanding access to athletics, aquatics, and special facilities.
On the ice
The Lightning saw a home streak snapped Saturday night in Tampa, falling 6-2 to Buffalo as the visitors scored early and kept the pressure on. Tampa’s next game is on the road.
