Troy-Area Gas and Diesel Prices Rise Again in Metro Detroit

Fuel costs moved higher again across the Metro Detroit market in AAA Michigan’s July 31, 2026, price check, giving Troy drivers and fuel-dependent businesses another increase to watch. Regular gasoline averaged $4.334 per gallon, while diesel averaged $5.453 per gallon.

These are Metro Detroit averages, not Troy-only pump prices. Troy is in Oakland County and part of the regional market tracked by Michigan transportation agencies, but prices can vary from one station to another based on location, competition, payment method and timing.

Regular gas is up from every comparison point

AAA listed Metro Detroit regular gasoline at $4.334 per gallon on July 31. That was 12.7 cents higher than the previous week’s $4.207 average, 21.4 cents above the month-ago average of $4.120 and $1.144 higher than the year-ago average of $3.190.

For a household filling a 15-gallon tank, the weekly increase alone represents about $1.91 more than it would have at the prior week’s regional average. The year-over-year difference is much larger, adding roughly $17.16 to the same 15-gallon fill-up.

Diesel is moving faster

Diesel climbed to a Metro Detroit average of $5.453 per gallon. AAA’s figure was 19.8 cents above the previous week’s $5.255, 14.4 cents higher than the month-ago average of $5.309 and $1.710 above the year-ago average of $3.743.

That makes diesel’s year-over-year increase larger than regular gasoline’s: $1.710 per gallon compared with $1.144. A 15-gallon diesel fill-up therefore costs about $25.65 more than it did at the same point last year, based on the Metro Detroit averages.

What Troy-area drivers and businesses should watch

Higher gasoline costs can put additional pressure on commuting budgets, household travel and weekend trips. Diesel increases can be especially important for contractors, landscapers, delivery operators, repair companies, freight businesses and other employers that rely on trucks or equipment.

Fuel is also one operating cost that can affect restaurants, service companies and local businesses indirectly through deliveries, employee travel and supplier transportation. Those effects are practical possibilities, not documented claims that Troy businesses have already changed prices or operations because of this specific increase.
