Tulsa voters face an August 25 city election after the July 31 registration deadline
With voter registration closed for the August election, registered Tulsa residents now have an August 25 date to plan around. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The July 31, 2026, registration deadline has passed, so voters who were not registered by then cannot newly qualify for the August 25 election. Voters who are already registered can still request an absentee ballot, vote in person during the scheduled absentee-voting period or vote on Election Day.
What Tulsa voters will decide
The city portion of the ballot includes nonpartisan races for Tulsa City Auditor and city councilors in all nine council districts, according to the City of Tulsa’s 2026 election packet.
The City Auditor is elected citywide. Each councilor is elected by voters in that councilor’s respective district, so the council contest appearing on a voter’s ballot depends on where that voter lives.
The city offices are nonpartisan. The City Auditor serves a four-year term, while councilors serve two-year terms beginning in December 2026.
A runoff is possible, but not certain
Tulsa has scheduled a possible nonpartisan city runoff for November 3, 2026. It would be held only if required under the city’s election rules.
Under the city charter provisions included in the election resolution, a candidate who receives more than 50% of the votes for an office on August 25 is elected. If more than two candidates are in a contest and no candidate reaches that threshold, the candidates whose vote totals together reach at least 50% advance to the runoff under the stated rule.
Deadlines still ahead
The next immediate deadline is 5 p.m. Monday, August 10, for requesting an absentee ballot for the August election, according to the Oklahoma State Election Board.
In-person absentee voting is scheduled for:
- Thursday and Friday, August 20-21: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Saturday, August 22: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Election Day is Tuesday, August 25, with polling places open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The official 2026 Oklahoma voter-information calendar lists the registration, absentee-request, voting-hour and in-person absentee dates.
Other contests may appear
The August ballot may include more than the Tulsa city races. The city election packet lists county, state and federal contests scheduled for the August 25 election cycle, but the complete ballot can vary by district and jurisdiction.
Voters should not assume that every Tulsa ballot will contain identical contests beyond the citywide City Auditor race. The city council race, along with any other local, county, state or federal contests, should be verified before voting.
Check your polling place and ballot
Before heading to the polls, Tulsa voters should use the Oklahoma voter-information resources or the City of Tulsa election page to confirm registration status, polling location, council district and the complete ballot assigned to them. The city page also links to Tulsa County Election Board and voter resources.
For registered voters, the practical calendar is now clear: request an absentee ballot by 5 p.m. August 10, vote in person during the August 20-22 absentee-voting period, or vote on August 25. A city runoff may follow on November 3 if the results require one.
