Tumwater Daily Briefing
Good morning, Tumwater. Hereโs a quick look at whatโs happening around the city and greater Thurston County for Saturday, February 7, 2026.
City Council at Black History Month commemoration
The city has issued a notice of potential quorum for todayโs โA Century of Black Historyโ commemoration, scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. at 7838 Pacific Ave SE in nearby Lacey. That means several Tumwater City Council members may attend the event, though they are not expected to take formal action while there.
The gathering is part of regional Black History Month activities and offers Tumwater residents a chance to hear stories, honor local Black leaders, and connect with neighbors from across the South Sound. If you go, allow a little extra time for parking and for greeting city officials who may be on hand.
Weekend activities around the county
While there are no major festivals inside Tumwater city limits today, Thurston Countyโs recreation calendar is busy just up the road. This morningโs activities include a Thunder Fish swim session for specialized recreation participants at River Ridge High School and an Olympic Model Railroad Society meeting at the fairgrounds.
Later today, a themed inclusive dance in Olympia will offer another option for residents looking for an accessible evening out. These countywide events often draw families from Tumwater and can be a good way to get out of the house without traveling far.
Weather and day planner
After a mostly sunny Friday that reached the midโ50s, Tumwater heads into the rest of the weekend with seasonable February temperatures and the possibility of light showers overnight. Roads should remain clear, but morning hours can still feel damp and chilly, especially in low-lying areas.
If youโre planning to be out for the Black History Month commemoration or other events, layers and a light rain jacket should be enough for most of the day. As always, check the latest local forecast before driving into the hills or staying out late.
