Two Shootings Draw Regional Attention; Norfolk Police Investigate West 24th Street Incident

Norfolk, VA – March 9, 2026 – Norfolk saw another active stretch for law enforcement, with a local shooting under investigation and a Norfolk resident among those hurt in a separate Oceanfront incident.

Police in both Norfolk and Virginia Beach are continuing to gather evidence and piece together what led up to the gunfire in each case.

Man Injured in West 24th Street Shooting

Norfolk Police responded around 9:30 p.m. Thursday to the 500 block of West 24th Street after receiving reports of gunfire.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening, and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

A person of interest was detained at the scene as detectives began their investigation. As of Monday, police have not announced any charges or released additional details about what may have led to the shooting.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Norfolk Woman Among Victims in Oceanfront Shooting

In a separate incident, Virginia Beach police shared new details Sunday about a March 7 shooting along Atlantic Avenue at the Oceanfront.

Authorities say six people were struck during what investigators described as an exchange of gunfire between two men. Among those injured was an 18-year-old woman from Norfolk.

All six victims are expected to recover.

The suspects have not yet been taken into custody. Detectives are asking anyone with information, including cellphone or surveillance video, to come forward.

While the Oceanfront shooting occurred outside Norfolk city limits, the involvement of a Norfolk resident underscores how incidents in one part of Hampton Roads can quickly ripple across the region.
