Valentine’s Dance fills the Community Center

Watauga families have a chance to celebrate a little early today at the city’s Valentine’s Dance at the Watauga Community Center. The afternoon Family Dance runs from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by a Daddy–Daughter Dance from 6 to 8 p.m., both aimed at creating a relaxed, family‑friendly night out. Tickets are $17.50 per person, and advance registration is required for everyone attending, including adults. The event is open to ages 2 and up and features music, dancing, and festive decorations provided with help from local partners.

Active Adult Center rolls out February schedule

The city’s Active Adult Center at 7901 Indian Springs Road has released its February 2026 calendar and newsletter, outlining daily activities, lunch menus, and special happenings for residents 60 and older. Membership for Watauga residents is $15 per year for access to the center, or $30 for a combined Active Adult and Community Center membership, with higher rates for non‑residents. Regular offerings include games, fitness programs, social activities, and weekday Meals on Wheels lunches for qualifying members, with $8 meals available for younger guests who reserve ahead.

Fire Department focuses on safety outreach

Watauga Fire and EMS continues its community outreach with several ongoing programs. CPR, Citizen Fire Academy, and Community Emergency Response Team training are being planned for future dates, with schedules to be announced once finalized. In the meantime, the department is offering free smoke alarms to qualified homeowners in the city who do not have a working alarm and cannot easily afford one. Crews can also assist with installation to make sure devices are placed correctly and in key living areas outside bedrooms.

Short‑term rental owners reminded of new rules

Homeowners who rent out properties for short stays through platforms such as Airbnb or Vrbo are operating under new rules this year. The city now requires all short‑term rentals to be registered and to meet building and fire code standards, including having a commercial fire alarm system. Enforcement began January 1, 2026, and owners who have not yet registered risk citations if they remain out of compliance. The city is encouraging hosts to complete paperwork promptly to avoid fines and ensure guest safety.
