Visalia Parkway widening enters final construction phase
Construction on the Visalia Parkway widening project has entered its final phase, with crews working on median improvements and final paving ahead of a September 2026 completion target, the City of Visalia said in a July 18 update.
The work is occurring on Visalia Parkway within city limits and affects a major local corridor used by drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists. The project is intended to add roadway space while improving facilities for people walking and riding bicycles.
Final work is underway
The current phase centers on improvements to the parkway median and the final paving needed to complete the roadway work. The broader project includes expansion work, new sidewalks and a Class II bike lane.
Those elements mean the project is not limited to widening the vehicle lanes. Once the work is finished, the corridor is expected to have new pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure in addition to the roadway improvements. The city has identified September 2026 as the anticipated completion month.
The city has not stated a precise day for the project’s completion. Until the remaining work is finished, the parkway will continue to function as an active construction corridor.
Traffic will remain open
Visalia Parkway will remain open to through traffic while construction continues. Drivers should expect temporary traffic controls and minor delays near active work zones, particularly as crews carry out median improvements and paving.
Because the corridor is staying open, motorists will pass through construction areas while work proceeds rather than facing a full closure of the parkway. Traffic controls may change around individual work zones as construction advances through the final phase.
The city described the expected delays as minor. Drivers using Visalia Parkway should allow additional time when traveling near active work and follow posted traffic controls.
More segments are expected
The current project is also part of a longer-term approach to Visalia Parkway improvements. The city said future segments of the parkway within city limits will undergo similar expansions as development continues.
