Wells Wright Patman Drive work scheduled through Dec. 10

Street improvements on Wright Patman Drive in Wells are scheduled for July 13 through December 10, 2026, with one-half of the road closed at a time rather than a full road closure.

The City of Wells posted the construction notice July 7. Those dates are the city’s published schedule; they do not independently confirm that work began on July 13 or that construction remains on schedule as of July 28.

What drivers and residents should expect

The city says alternating half-road closures will be used while crews work. Drivers should expect reduced access and possible delays on Wright Patman Drive through the scheduled end date. People who do not live on the road are asked to limit unnecessary trips through the construction area while work is underway.

Wells says residents’ driveways will not be blocked. That guidance means homes should retain driveway access, but it does not promise uninterrupted travel conditions or eliminate the possibility of short delays near active work areas.

Apartment residents may be asked to park in front of the new offices when needed during portions of the project. The city’s notice gives general parking guidance but does not identify every affected property or specify exactly when those parking changes will occur.

Dust is also expected. The city advises residents to keep doors and windows closed and rinse vehicles as needed. Those steps may be especially useful for households near the active construction area and for businesses or workers who rely on the road during the day.

Grant-funded street improvement project

The work is supported by a Texas Community Development Block Grant. The Texas Department of Agriculture says the program’s Community Development Fund can support public facilities, including street and drainage improvements in rural communities.

A Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs housing-tax-credit record lists Wells Manor at 6 Wright Patman Drive, providing location context for the city’s reference to apartment parking. The housing record does not document the 2026 road project or establish the timing of any parking changes.
