West Warwick Schools’ $64.2 Million Construction Plan Advances Through FY 2026 State Review

A Rhode Island Department of Education review has identified a West Warwick Public Schools construction and renovation program with an estimated cost of $64,192,250. The program covers new construction, major renovation and other renovation work at four primary sites, while also listing capital improvements at three additional elementary schools.

The state memorandum, published in December 2025 as part of the FY 2026 school-construction planning cycle, lists an estimated Rhode Island state share of $43,843,307. Under the financing assumptions in the memorandum, that figure is shown as $68,066,734 when eligible financing interest is included. Those are estimates in the review, not evidence that the money has been awarded, appropriated or received.

Sites named in the program

The four primary project locations are Maisie Quinn Elementary School, West Warwick High School, John Deering Middle School and 30 Payan Street. The memorandum separately identifies capital improvements at Horgan Elementary School, Greenbush Elementary School and Wakefield Elementary School.

For families, students and school employees, the stated purpose is to address building deficiencies affecting student and staff health and safety. The memorandum also says the work is intended to improve accessibility, energy efficiency and asset protection.

The FY 2026 base aid-share ratio listed for the program is 68.30 percent. That ratio and the state-share figures describe the financing framework presented in the state review; they do not establish a final project award or a completed funding package.

What remains undecided

The available memorandum does not establish that construction contracts had been awarded by Aug. 6, 2026. It also does not provide a current construction start date, a final bond schedule or an exact project-by-project cost breakdown.

As a result, residents should view the program as continuing through planning, financing and construction decisions rather than as construction already underway. The available information also does not indicate that any listed school will close, relocate or change class schedules.

The Town of West Warwick’s official website lists a Town Council meeting scheduled for Aug. 18, 2026. That meeting is a possible local follow-up point for funding, implementation or public oversight, but the listing alone does not show that the school program will be on the agenda.

The state review gives West Warwick a defined facilities program and estimated financing figures. The next practical milestones remain local and state decisions about funding, project sequencing, contracts and construction timing.
