Winston County schools approve staff changes ahead of August start

The Winston County Board of Education approved personnel changes for the 2026-27 school year at its May 21, 2026, meeting in Double Springs, including two non-renewals at Double Springs schools and a new bus-driver hire effective before the August school-year start.

Meagan Wynn was not renewed as a teacher at Double Springs Elementary School. Mackenzie Kitchens was not renewed as a paraprofessional at Double Springs Middle School.

The board hired Kyle Bolton as a bus driver in Double Springs, with the appointment effective Aug. 3. The action affects classroom staffing, paraprofessional support and transportation planning for students and families in the community as the next school year approaches.

Appointments across the county

The board also approved teaching appointments at schools elsewhere in the Winston County School System. Cynthia Hamby and Samantha Crooks were hired as teachers at Addison Elementary School.

Justin Cornelius was hired as a teacher at Addison High School. Brandon Millican and Timothy Wilcox were hired as teachers at Winston County High School.

Mattie Rice was transferred from Addison Elementary School to Addison High School, effective Aug. 3. The effective date places the transfer and the Double Springs bus-driver appointment less than two weeks before the August start of the new school year.

The personnel actions include non-renewals, new hires and a transfer. The board action did not identify whether the non-renewals reflected layoffs, contract expirations or another employment classification, and it did not give reasons for those decisions.

Board approves spending and payroll schedule

Alongside the personnel decisions, the board approved $920,688.66 in accounts payable and $2,451,579.78 in payroll. Together, those approvals totaled $3,372,268.44 in expenditures.

The board also approved payroll dates through June 2027. That schedule extends beyond the start of the 2026-27 school year and establishes payment dates into the following summer.

Superintendent Jeff Scott expected additional personnel changes could be presented for approval at a later meeting. The May 21 action therefore sets out the personnel decisions approved at that meeting, but it may not represent the final list of staffing actions for the coming school year.
