MAGA Inc. Spends $827,711 Before South Carolina GOP Runoff
MAGA Inc. reported $827,711.11 in independent expenditures supporting Darline Graham on August 24, the final day before South Carolina’s Republican Senate runoff. Graham defeated Rep. Ralph Norman on August 25 and won the Republican nomination for the Senate seat.
The late spending offers an early, concrete look at how President Donald Trump’s allied super PAC may intervene in Republican primaries ahead of the 2026 midterms. It also shows why voters should distinguish money spent by an outside group from money available to a candidate’s own campaign.
What the filing shows
The Federal Election Commission filing listed the $827,711.11 as independent spending in support of Graham. The spending paid for text-message blasts and phone calls to voters.
Independent expenditures are not contributions to a candidate. They are payments made by a committee to support or oppose a candidate without giving the money directly to the candidate or having the candidate’s campaign spend it. The funds therefore do not become part of Graham’s campaign account.
The FEC identifies MAGA Inc. as an unauthorized hybrid PAC with a non-contribution account. Its non-contribution account can be used for unlimited independent expenditures, subject to the legal requirement that the spending remain independent of the candidate’s campaign.
Graham won the Republican nomination
Graham defeated Norman in the August 25 runoff after the two finished as the top candidates in a 10-way Republican primary. She had been appointed to serve the remaining months of her late brother Lindsey Graham’s Senate term and entered the special election with Trump’s endorsement.
Trump campaigned for her in South Carolina, including at a rally in Myrtle Beach, and held tele-rallies before the runoff. The MAGA Inc. spending was one part of a broader campaign that also included Trump’s endorsement, public appearances and other political activity. The available records do not establish that the spending caused Graham’s victory.
MAGA Inc. has a large reserve
MAGA Inc.’s FEC committee overview reported $400,684,172.17 in total receipts from January 1, 2025, through July 31, 2026. The committee reported $403,450,026.85 in cash on hand at the end of that reporting period.
Before the August 24 South Carolina filing was reflected in the commission’s summary data, MAGA Inc. had reported $1,708,261.87 in independent expenditures through June 30. The FEC warns that newly filed summary data may take up to 48 hours to appear, so aggregate totals may not immediately include newly disclosed activity.
The South Carolina expenditure was described in contemporaneous reporting as MAGA Inc.’s largest independent expenditure reported so far in 2026. It was also a significant deployment for a group that, before this activity, had spent little on Trump’s 2026 midterm candidate picks while holding more than $400 million in cash.
Candidate funds were separate
Darline for Senate separately reported $346,782.64 in receipts, $95,351.36 in disbursements and $251,431.28 in cash on hand for July 23 through August 5.
Those figures cover only the period listed in the campaign’s filing and do not represent Graham’s complete finances for the runoff. They also should not be combined with MAGA Inc.’s cash reserve. The super PAC’s money remained outside the candidate committee, even though the group spent it to support Graham.
What to watch next
The next question is whether MAGA Inc. reports similar late spending in other Republican primaries or general-election contests. Its reported cash position gives it substantial capacity to make targeted interventions, but the committee has not publicly confirmed a full list of future races or a total 2026 spending plan.
Voters can track these interventions through FEC independent-expenditure filings. The records may appear after communications are delivered, and the commission’s summary pages can lag newly filed reports. That timing matters when voters are trying to identify who paid for a message during a close campaign.
