Fairbanks municipal candidates face Aug. 5 withdrawal deadline
Candidates in the City of Fairbanks and Fairbanks North Star Borough municipal-election process have until 5 p.m. Aug. 5 to withdraw from the Oct. 6 regular municipal election, according to election calendars published by the two local governments.
The deadline is the next scheduled procedural step following the candidate-filing period. Filing opened at 8 a.m. July 15 and closed at 5 p.m. July 29.
The available official material does not include a complete final candidate list. It therefore does not establish which candidates remain in any particular contest after the withdrawal deadline, or whether any candidate is unopposed.
What the deadline covers
The City of Fairbanks and Fairbanks North Star Borough each publish election information for their municipal processes. The calendars confirm the same Aug. 5, 5 p.m. withdrawal deadline and the same Oct. 6 election date.
The deadline is expected to finalize the candidate field for local offices before ballots and voter-information materials are prepared for the October election. City and borough ballots do not necessarily include the same offices, so candidates and voters must consult the applicable election administration for office-specific information.
For city election information, the City Clerk’s Office is identified at 800 Cushman Street. The borough separately maintains election information through its own election administration.
Election-day and early-voting schedule
The regular municipal election is scheduled for Oct. 6, 2026. Polls are scheduled to be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. that day.
Early voting is scheduled to begin Sept. 21. The published calendars provide the next major dates for voters after the candidate-withdrawal period closes, but they do not provide a final candidate roster in the material available for this report.
Certification dates differ by calendar
The City of Fairbanks calendar lists Oct. 13 as its certification date. The Fairbanks North Star Borough calendar lists Oct. 13 for ballot counting and Oct. 22 for certification.
The verified municipal-election schedule also identifies Oct. 22 for certification and swearing-in, with terms scheduled to begin Oct. 26. The differing calendar entries should be read as published by the separate city and borough election administrations rather than as a single shared certification milestone.
For now, the immediate election-administration deadline is Aug. 5 at 5 p.m. Candidates who filed for the municipal election may withdraw by that time; election day remains scheduled for Oct. 6.
