Port St. Lucie man charged after brutal beach attack

A Port St. Lucie resident is facing an attempted first-degree murder charge after deputies say he attacked a woman during a late-night walk on a Martin County beach. Investigators allege the suspect approached the victim from behind, dragged her into shallow surf and tried to drown her before leaving her on the sand.

The woman survived and was able to reach help, giving deputies enough information to launch an intensive search. Detectives later connected a mental-health call in Port St. Lucie to the case and identified the man as the suspected attacker. He is now being held without bond in the Martin County Jail while the investigation continues.

Authorities have described the assault as a random act of violence, adding to wider concerns about safety on Treasure Coast beaches after dark. Deputies are encouraging residents to stay in well-lit areas, walk in pairs when possible and report any suspicious behavior immediately.

Truck slams into FPL pole and home on SE Morningside

In Port St. Lucie, a pickup truck crashed into a Florida Power & Light utility pole and then into the garage of a home on SE Morningside Boulevard, briefly disrupting power and traffic in the neighborhood. Police say the collision brought down power lines and damaged the home’s garage door, but injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Investigators reported no signs of impairment and indicated the crash may have been related to the driver’s age. Crews quickly secured the downed lines and reopened the roadway after repairs. The incident is a reminder for drivers to use extra caution on residential streets with narrow lanes, curves and driveways close to the roadway.

Juvenile in custody after deadly Fort Pierce shooting

Just north of the city, the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting in Fort Pierce that left an adult man dead along Oleander Avenue early Monday. Deputies responding to reports of gunfire found the victim, who was later pronounced dead.

A juvenile suspect has since been taken into custody. Investigators say the killing appears to be an isolated incident and they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public. Still, the case adds to regional worries about youth violence and access to guns in nearby communities.

Detectives are asking anyone with additional information or video from the area to come forward as they work to piece together what led up to the deadly encounter.

Beach and weather safety still in focus

With pleasant temperatures drawing more residents outdoors, local officials continue to stress basic safety around both the roads and the water. Recent rip current advisories along the Treasure Coast have urged swimmers to stay near lifeguard towers and avoid entering rough surf alone, especially at night.

Neighbors are also being reminded to check on older drivers in the family, make sure vehicles are in good working order and encourage loved ones to avoid driving if they feel unsteady or confused. Small steps, officials say, can help prevent serious crashes and keep Port St. Lucie’s neighborhoods safer.
