North Las Vegas Daily Brief: Arrest in deadly shooting case, stabbing investigation, and community notes
Here’s a quick scan of what North Las Vegas residents are waking up to today, with public-safety updates first and a couple of practical community notes after.
Arrest made in shooting tied to deadly crash
Police say a suspect has been arrested in connection with last week’s shooting that ended with a vehicle slamming into an apartment complex wall on East Rome Boulevard. Investigators say the driver suffered gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect, Deshawn Pitts, was booked into the North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center on open murder and attempted murder charges, and is being held without bail. Police have indicated a court date is set for March 30.
Stabbing investigation near I-15 corridor
Authorities are also investigating a stabbing reported around midday near Stocker Street and West Owens Avenue. Police said the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening and the person was taken to a hospital. The suspect had not been publicly identified in the initial report, and drivers were asked to avoid the immediate area while the investigation continued.
Traffic pinch point clears after crash
In a separate traffic update, a crash temporarily blocked all southbound lanes at Martin Luther King Boulevard and West Gowan Road. Regional traffic officials later reported the lanes reopened and congestion eased, but it’s a good reminder that this corridor can back up fast during incidents.
Family-friendly weekend note: free STEM tickets with library cards
Looking ahead to Saturday, a STEAM-focused family event is scheduled at the Neon Museum. Organizers say free tickets are available for library cardholders from the North Las Vegas Library District (and other local districts), with a limited number offered on a first-come, first-served basis at the door.
