Omaha daily local headlines for March 3: shootings investigated, new emergency alerts, printing plant closure, and a new Fun-Plex coaster
Omaha, NE – March 3, 2026 – Arrest follows a North Omaha shooting call, Douglas County rolls out multilingual alerts, and Fun-Plex teases a new coaster.
Here is what Omaha is talking about heading into Tuesday afternoon, with a mix of public safety updates, a new countywide tool for emergencies, and a warm-weather teaser.
Public safety: North Omaha shooting call leads to arrest
Police say they were called Sunday night to the area of 39th Street and Grand Avenue after two people reported they were shot at. Officers later arrested 39-year-old Kendell Tealer in a top-floor apartment. The two people who reported the incident were not injured.
Police are also investigating two separate walk-in shooting cases after two men arrived at different hospitals with gunshot wounds. Investigators said one man would not share details, while the other reported being shot at near the Walmart by Saddle Creek and Dodge.
Severe weather readiness: multilingual alerts roll out countywide
Douglas County emergency managers are encouraging residents to add another layer of warning beyond outdoor sirens by downloading the ReachWell app. Officials say alerts can be delivered in more than 130 languages and can help people who may not recognize what sirens mean or what actions to take.
The first outdoor warning siren test of the 2026 season is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 4. Tests are scheduled for the first Wednesday of each month through October, weather permitting.
Local business: downtown printing shifts out of state
The city’s daily newspaper says it is closing its downtown printing plant and will shift print production to Des Moines. The company says it plans to sell the downtown plant as it leans further into digital publishing, while continuing to deliver a print edition Tuesday through Sunday.
Things to watch: Fun-Plex announces a new roller coaster
Fun-Plex announced plans for a new roller coaster called Mammoth, which the park says will stand about 70 feet tall and run roughly 2,000 feet of track. The ride is slated to open this summer, alongside changes planned for the go-kart area.
