Plant closure scheduled for Aug. 25

The Nebraska Department of Labor filing says the entire Omaha plant is expected to close permanently. As of Aug. 5, operations are scheduled to continue through Aug. 25 before ending at the close of business.

The state’s official WARN listing records the June 26 notice for Skylark Meats, lists Omaha as the location and identifies 218 affected jobs. Under the federal WARN framework, qualifying employers generally provide advance notice of covered plant closings or mass layoffs to workers, the state and the affected local government.

WOWT independently reported the planned closure, the South 110th Street address, the Aug. 25 date and the affected workforce. Food Business News reported that the facility is a 215,000-square-foot further-processing plant and employs 218 people.

What the filing says about workers

The notice states that none of the affected employees are represented by a union and that none have job-bumping rights. In this context, the filing does not provide for employees with greater seniority to displace other workers as part of the shutdown process.

Skylark says it is encouraging employees to apply for positions at affiliated facilities. The notice does not guarantee that affected workers will receive those positions or that employment elsewhere will continue.

The 218 employees remain identified as affected workers under the WARN notice, but the filing does not mean all 218 have already lost their jobs. The scheduled separation point remains the end of business on Aug. 25, 2026.
