Omaha Council Sets Aug. 11 Hearing on 2027 Budget and Projects
Omaha residents will have a formal opportunity to comment on the city’s 2027 budget and Capital Improvement Program at a public hearing scheduled for Aug. 11, 2026, as the City Council considers a separate set of proposed commitments involving development, property, streetlights and public safety.
The hearing is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The date is the next known public decision point in the budget process, according to the council’s July 21 agenda materials.
Development financing on the agenda
The July 21 agenda included two proposed tax-increment financing redevelopment plans. One would provide up to $1,513,578 for 7630 Pacific Apartments. Another would provide up to $660,785 for 1053 Park Avenue.
TIF arrangements generally involve using future increases in property-tax revenue associated with a redevelopment area to support eligible project costs. The agenda identifies the Omaha amounts and projects, but the approved packet does not establish that either plan has received final council approval.
That distinction matters for residents tracking how public resources may be committed to private or mixed-use development. At this stage, the listed figures are proposed maximum amounts rather than confirmed completed expenditures.
Property and streetlight proposals
The council agenda also included a proposed $2,298,771.60 purchase of property at 1818 Leavenworth Street. The packet does not identify a final vote or completed transaction for that purchase.
Another proposed action would authorize the purchase and installation of 48 Acorn Streetlight Poles by Omaha Public Power District at a cost of $451,131.28. The item places a specific infrastructure expense before the council, but the agenda preview does not establish that the poles have been purchased or installed.
Together, the development, property and streetlight items show several ways city decisions can affect land use, public infrastructure and spending beyond the annual budget document itself. They should not be read as final commitments unless later council minutes confirm approval.
Police internship grant also under consideration
The council was asked to accept a $60,000 Nebraska Crime Commission grant for the Omaha Police Department’s SFY 2027 criminal-justice internship program.
The grant request is separate from the proposed TIF plans and property purchase, but it is part of the same agenda picture: the council is weighing development financing, infrastructure, property and a public-safety-related grant while the next city budget cycle approaches.
What happens next
The Aug. 11 hearing on the 2027 city budget and Capital Improvement Program is the next known opportunity for public participation and council action identified in the packet. The approved materials do not include a newer final vote or recommended-budget document from Aug. 6 through Aug. 8.
That means the available record does not support saying the 2027 budget will increase or reduce services. It also does not support describing the TIF plans, the Leavenworth property purchase or the streetlight project as completed.
Separately, Omaha has an active citywide Unified Development Code procurement, with responses due Aug. 26, 2026, according to the American Planning Association listing. That deadline is a related development-policy milestone, but it is separate from the Aug. 11 budget hearing and the July 21 council agenda items.
