Gilbert Sets State of the Town as Police Investigate and Child Recovers

Gilbert, AZ – March 10, 2026 – Mayor sets State of the Town, police make armed robbery arrests, and a near-drowning child shows signs of recovery.

Mayor Announces 2026 State of the Town

Gilbert residents are invited to gather in the Heritage District later this month for the Town’s annual State of the Town address. Mayor Scott Anderson will headline the March 31 event at Water Tower Plaza, highlighting progress in public safety, parks, infrastructure and long-term planning.

The evening will include community activities and a video presentation outlining key accomplishments and priorities for the year ahead. Town leaders say the event is designed to both celebrate recent milestones and outline what’s next as Gilbert continues to grow.

Three Arrested in Armed Robbery Case

State investigators have arrested three suspects in connection with an armed robbery that followed a January crash on Interstate 10. Authorities say the suspects allegedly held another driver at gunpoint and stole items before fleeing the scene.

According to the Department of Public Safety, two 18-year-old Phoenix men and a 17-year-old girl were taken into custody over the past several weeks, with the final arrest occurring March 3. The case was handled by the agency’s Major Crimes District. Officials say the arrests reflect continued coordination between state and local law enforcement partners.

Child Shows Signs of Recovery After Near-Drowning

In an emotional turn of events, a child who was pronounced dead following a near-drowning at a Gilbert home is now expected to survive.

Police and fire crews responded to the backyard pool incident on Super Bowl Sunday. After extensive lifesaving efforts, the child was initially declared deceased at a hospital. Hours later, officers were notified that the child had begun showing signs of life and was transferred to another facility for continued care.

Officials have described the recovery as extraordinary. The incident serves as a powerful reminder for families to take extra precautions around backyard pools as warmer weather approaches.
