Three Gilbert council incumbents lose primary reelection bids

Three Gilbert Town Council incumbents lost their reelection bids in the town’s July 21, 2026 primary, a result that will bring substantial turnover to the council after the November election process is complete, according to AZFamily. The four seats on the ballot were held by Chuck Bongiovanni, Bobbi Buchli, Yung Koprowski and Jim Torgeson.

The primary date was moved from Aug. 4 to July 21 under Arizona legislation identified by the Town of Gilbert as HB2022/SB1425. Gilbert’s election guidance says candidates can be elected in the primary when they receive the required majority for the seats available. Races that remain unresolved proceed to the general election, which is scheduled for Nov. 3, 2026.

The published result report does not provide a complete candidate-by-candidate vote table or identify which, if any, of the four council seats will require a November contest, so the full lineup is not yet clear. The next known step is the county’s continued election-results process, followed by the Nov. 3 general election if unresolved Gilbert races remain.
