Gilbert Releases Final Water-Meter Audit
The Town of Gilbert released its final water-meter audit on June 23, 2026, following community concerns about whether utility customers were being billed accurately and fairly.
The audit focuses on Gilbert’s utility-meter and billing process. The town said the report provides next steps intended to support accurate and fair customer billing, putting the municipal utility’s account records and follow-up work at the center of the next phase.
The town’s release says the report identifies next steps. That makes the audit more than a closed review: its local significance will depend on how Gilbert carries out those steps and whether additional action is taken on individual accounts, system controls or public reporting.
Gilbert’s next step is to continue reviewing and implementing the measures identified in the final audit. The follow-up will be important for determining whether the town changes internal controls, corrects customer records or provides additional public information about the billing process.
