It’s been a busy stretch in Charlotte, with severe weather alerts, a major college basketball championship downtown, and the Hornets closing out a weekend road matchup.

Severe Weather Clips Mecklenburg County

Storms moved through the region Sunday as part of a larger system impacting the Southeast. Weather officials confirmed a brief EF0 tornado touched down in Mecklenburg County on March 15.

The storm caused limited damage and short-lived disruptions, but no widespread injuries were reported. Another round of severe weather risk remains in place Monday, with forecasters warning of possible damaging winds and isolated tornadoes across parts of the Carolinas.

City and county officials are urging residents to stay weather-aware as the system continues moving up the East Coast.

Duke Claims ACC Tournament Title in Uptown

The Spectrum Center wrapped up a packed week as Charlotte hosted the 2026 ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament from March 10–14.

Duke captured the conference championship Saturday night, securing the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The event marked the 15th time Charlotte has hosted the ACC tournament, drawing fans and visitors to Uptown restaurants, hotels, and bars throughout the week.

Local leaders have long pointed to the tournament as a major economic driver, and this year’s edition once again placed Charlotte at the center of the college basketball spotlight.

Hornets Finish Weekend Road Game

The Charlotte Hornets were on the road Saturday afternoon, facing the San Antonio Spurs in a March 14 matchup.

The game capped a busy stretch for the team as the regular season winds toward its final weeks. The Hornets now return their focus to upcoming games as they look to build momentum heading into the closing stretch.
