Panthers Stadium Renovation Advances in Uptown Charlotte
Renovation work is underway at Bank of America Stadium in Uptown Charlotte, where approximately 65 construction workers were active behind the scenes ahead of the end of the 2026 Carolina Panthers season.
Fresh renderings released July 23 show the next stage of the redevelopment at the Panthers’ existing home. The project is an ongoing renovation of Bank of America Stadium, not construction of an entirely new football stadium.
The update also outlines plans for a second venue beside the stadium: a 4,400-seat indoor performance facility that Tepper Sports & Entertainment is targeting for opening in 2029.
Work is moving forward at the existing stadium
The construction activity marks a visible step in a redevelopment project that will reshape one of Charlotte’s largest sports and entertainment sites. The Panthers are continuing to use the current stadium while work proceeds, with crews working behind the scenes before the 2026 season ends.
The stadium is expected to keep the Bank of America Stadium name for the foreseeable future. That means the renovation is advancing under the current naming arrangement rather than as part of a publicly identified stadium replacement or naming change.
The July 23 update did not provide a final completion date for the stadium renovation. The 2029 date applies to the planned indoor performance venue, and remains a target for that facility rather than confirmation that it has opened.
Public money is tied to the redevelopment
Charlotte City Council approved a $650 million city contribution in June 2024. The money comes from hospitality and tourism tax revenue, tying the city’s participation to taxes generated by visitors and tourism-related activity.
That public contribution places the renovation within a broader public-private redevelopment effort in Uptown. The project is connected not only to the Panthers’ football operations, but also to Charlotte’s sports infrastructure, tourism spending and future event capacity.
The planned indoor venue would add a smaller performance space next to the football stadium. With 4,400 seats, it would provide a separate setting for events that do not require the capacity of Bank of America Stadium. The available project update identifies the venue’s planned size and 2029 target, but does not establish that the facility has been completed or fully delivered.
Two connected projects
The redevelopment is therefore advancing on two tracks. One involves active renovation work inside and around the existing stadium. The other involves planning for a new indoor performance venue beside it.
Together, the projects are intended to expand the Uptown sports and entertainment district without replacing Bank of America Stadium with a new football stadium. Their eventual effect on Charlotte will depend on how the renovated stadium and additional venue are used, including the events they attract and the tourism activity they generate.
For now, the confirmed milestones are the active construction work, the release of new renderings, the city’s $650 million contribution approved in 2024 and the planned 2029 opening target for the 4,400-seat venue.
