Englewood fire-station renovation included in Charlotte County’s proposed 20-year sales-tax extension
Charlotte County commissioners have approved a final project list for a proposed 20-year extension of the county’s 1% local-option sales tax, and the package includes renovation of Englewood Fire District Station 72.
The tax extension has not been approved. The funding question is scheduled to go before Charlotte County voters in a referendum in November 2026. If voters approve it, the sales tax would continue funding the defined capital-project package, including the Englewood-area fire-station renovation.
What is on the project list
Charlotte County’s official 2026 sales-tax extension page identifies the Station 72 renovation as a public-safety project. The same project list includes other public-safety, school and infrastructure work elsewhere in the county.
Those projects include work involving the sheriff’s office, jail administration, a warehouse and other fire-station projects, as well as school projects. The county has approved the list of projects, but that action does not mean construction at Station 72 is already funded or scheduled.
The official information does not provide a cost for the Station 72 renovation. It also does not give a construction schedule or describe the renovation’s design scope.
What residents will decide
The November referendum will decide whether Charlotte County extends the 1% local-option sales tax for 20 years. Residents therefore will be voting on the funding mechanism for the approved capital plan, not on a completed Station 72 project.
The county’s documentation places the fire-station project in the Englewood service area. Englewood spans Sarasota and Charlotte counties, but this proposal is specifically tied to Charlotte County’s Englewood service area and the county’s fire-district project list.
That distinction matters for residents reviewing the referendum: the project is listed and the commission has approved the final package, while the tax extension remains a proposal pending voter approval.
Recent county activity in Englewood
A separate Charlotte County public-hearing notice identifies Tringali Park Community Center, 3460 N Access Road in Englewood, as the site of a public hearing held July 22, 2026. The notice reflects county service and public-notice activity in the Englewood area, while the sales-tax page, dated July 31, identifies the Station 72 renovation and the November referendum.
The next known decision point is the November 2026 referendum. Until then, the county’s published information supports the project’s inclusion in the proposed package but does not establish a construction start, a final cost or a completed renovation.
