It has been a busy few days across Charlotte, with severe weather, major sports events, and Uptown activity drawing attention citywide.

EF0 Tornado Touches Down in Mecklenburg County

A weak EF0 tornado briefly touched down in Charlotte on March 16 as part of a larger storm system moving across the Carolinas. The twister tracked for just over a mile in Mecklenburg County, snapping small trees and causing minor roof and siding damage in a few areas.

No serious injuries were reported. Crews responded to scattered debris and downed limbs, and cleanup continued into Monday evening. The storm was tied to a multi-state weather system that brought heavy rain and strong winds across the Southeast.

ACC Tournament Wraps at Spectrum Center

Spectrum Center wrapped up a packed week as the ACC men’s basketball tournament concluded March 14 in Uptown. Duke claimed the championship, capping several days of sold-out crowds and national attention for Charlotte.

The tournament marked the 15th time the city has hosted the event. Hotels, restaurants, and bars in the center city reported a noticeable bump in business as fans filled the streets throughout the week.

Hornets Fall on the Road

The Charlotte Hornets were in action Saturday, March 14, facing the San Antonio Spurs. Charlotte dropped the matchup as the team continues its late-season push.
