Blue Line single-tracking begins July 13 near Scaleybark as South Blvd closes
Starting Monday, July 13, CATS will run Blue Line single-track operations during peak periods and reroute nearby bus lines as South Blvd closes near Scaleybark.
Starting Monday, July 13, Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) will begin drainage improvements at the Blue Line crossing on South Boulevard, just south of Scaleybark Station. CATS says the work will require Blue Line schedule adjustments during peak travel times to accommodate single-tracking from July 13 through Aug. 9. An updated train schedule will be posted to the CATS-Pass app on July 9.
What changes on the Blue Line starting July 13
CATS says single-tracking will occur in two phases between the Archdale, Tyvola, Woodlawn and Scaleybark stations:
- July 13 to 26: Customers should board all trains from the northbound platform at those stations.
- July 27 to Aug. 9: Customers should board all trains from the southbound platform at those stations.
CATS says directional signage will be placed at those stations, and riders are encouraged to monitor the CATS-Pass app for real-time service updates and trip planning.
How the South Boulevard closure connects to the transit disruptions
WSOC-TV reports that part of South Boulevard will shut down for about a month as CATS begins drainage improvements at the Blue Line crossing near Scaleybark Station. The outlet says the outbound lanes will close between Clanton Road and Old Pineville Road, with drivers detoured onto South Tryon Street. WSOC-TV also reports the road is scheduled to reopen by Aug. 14.
Which CATS bus routes detour near Scaleybark
Along with the rail changes, CATS says road closure activity near Scaleybark Station will trigger temporary detours for bus routes 2, 12 and 30 from July 13 through Aug. 14. CATS warns riders to expect additional travel time while buses operate on detours.
- Route 2: Buses traveling from Scaleybark Station to Thriftwood Drive/Freedom Drive will detour from the regular route; no stops are expected to be missed. Buses traveling to Scaleybark Station operate on the regular route.
- Route 12: Southbound buses to I-485 Station will detour from the regular route; no stops are expected to be missed. Northbound buses to Rosethorn and Pressley operate on the regular route.
- Route 30: Buses traveling from Carrowmore and Thornton to SouthPark will detour from the regular route. CATS says Bus Stop 46285 at Scaleybark Road and Conway Avenue will not be served; riders should use Bus Stop 46286 at Scaleybark Road and Hartford Avenue instead. Buses traveling from SouthPark to Carrowmore and Thornton operate on the regular route.
What to do this week (July 17โ26)
Because July 17 falls within the July 13 to 26 phase, CATS guidance for this week is to board all trains from the northbound platform at the Archdale, Tyvola, Woodlawn and Scaleybark stations. With the bus detours for routes 2, 12 and 30 running through Aug. 14, riders should also plan extra time and check the CATS-Pass app before heading out.
