Thornton Gas Prices Edge Higher as Diesel Eases
AAA’s July 31 Denver metro check puts regular gas at $4.152 and diesel at $5.133, with gasoline slightly higher and diesel lower than July 30.
Regular gasoline edged higher while diesel prices moved lower in the latest AAA check serving Thornton-area drivers. On July 31, AAA listed the Denver metro average at $4.152 per gallon for regular gas and $5.133 for diesel.
Regular gas was up 0.8 cents per gallon from the July 30 Denver metro average of $4.144. Diesel fell 3.7 cents from the previous day’s $5.170 average. The two fuel types are therefore moving in different directions: gasoline is essentially flat but slightly higher, while diesel has eased but remains above $5 per gallon.
Thornton drivers should compare station listings
AAA’s figures are Denver metro averages, not a citywide average calculated only from Thornton stations. The Maverik at 250 E. 136th Avenue in Thornton is one local station with both regular gasoline and diesel, but its station-level prices should not be treated as representative of every pump in the city.
Local prices can differ by location, competition, payment method and time of day. Station listings may also change during the day, so drivers should check the price at the specific station before filling up.
What the movement means locally
For commuters and households, the regular-gas change from July 30 is modest on a single fill-up, but repeated increases can add up for drivers who travel long distances or rely on larger vehicles. Comparing nearby stations may matter more than the small day-to-day movement in the metro average.
The diesel decline offers some relief for contractors, delivery drivers, landscapers, service companies and other businesses that fuel work vehicles. Even so, diesel remains above $5 per gallon in the Denver metro average. Fuel costs can affect operating budgets for deliveries, restaurant supply runs and other services, although the available price data does not establish a specific cause for the change.
Drivers planning weekend trips may want to check prices shortly before filling up rather than relying on a metro average alone. The key question for the next update is whether regular gasoline continues to rise or stabilizes, and whether diesel’s recent decline continues.
